Instructor Profile: Cyndi Welch

“You have to keep a positive attitude, and never give up on your dream.”

Cyndi Welch understands the value of versatility. As an instructor at Make-Up Designory’s Burbank campus since March 2006, she draws upon extensive experience in film and television to give her Beauty 101 students a comprehensive understanding of make-up fundamentals across the entertainment, fashion and retail industries. Ms. Welch also teaches Beauty 201 Hairstyling for the Make-Up Artist, where she helps students learn how to style hair to complement any creative vision. She describes her teaching philosophy by saying, “I want my students to leave with the knowledge and capability of being able to work in any part of the entertainment industry with great success.”

With each professional assignment she undertakes, Ms. Welch strives to achieve the director’s vision through make-up and hair styling. Over the course of her thirteen-year career as a professional artist, she has worked with many prominent actors, musicians and entertainment personalities, including Hugh Laurie, Omar Epps, Daniel Baldwin, Chris O’Donnell, Simon Cowell, Anna Faris, Cuba Gooding Jr., Forrest Whitaker, Virginia Madsen, Minnie Driver, Kathy Bates, Danny DeVito, Christine Ebersole, Ginnifer Goodwin, Burt Reynolds, Phyllis Diller, Raquel Welch, Carmen Electra, Dave Navarro, Earth, Wind and Fire, and Mick Fleetwood, among others.

Ms. Welch stays inspired by following the latest developments and trends in the fashion and entertainment worlds, and also through her hobbies playing softball, golf and participating in Extreme Boot Camp. Her favorite part of teaching is watching her students learn to express themselves through make-up with confidence. She cites persistence as the key to success, adding, “Always have a smile on your face. You never get a second chance to make a first impression!”
