“Let’s learn AND laugh.”
Gina Sandler loves solving problems. Her passion for using make-up to create flawless beauty has inspired her over the course of her professional career. In the five years since she’s been teaching at MUD, she has helped her students learn how to create beauty make-up for film, television and print.
Ms. Sandler has worked in the make-up industry for twelve years, and has amassed extensive credits in commercials, print advertising, editorials and online. Her television commercial work has included clients like Canon, Mercedes-Benz, EA Sports, Ford, Lincoln, Nike, Taco Bell and Seiko Watches. She has worked in print for Aeropostale, Anchor Blue, Billabong, Clearasil, Dodge, Flexfit, Jaguar, Kia, Nikon, Pepsi, Stüssy and Taschen, doing everything from beauty make-up to special effects. She has also been responsible for designing looks for actors in webisodes, which she describes as: “…basically long commercials with hilarious scripts.”
With every professional assignment or classroom lesson, Ms. Sandler strives to become more organized and efficient at solving the challenge at hand. She draws inspiration from the colors and textures in nature, as well as travel, art, history, film and stage shows and books, in addition to her hobbies, which include art, reading, music, hiking, running, yoga, taekwondo and spinning. She credits networking and a positive attitude as significant factors in a make-up artist’s success, saying: “Do something for your career every day. Develop and maintain genuine, lasting relationships with other artists and people in the industry. If you’re not in a good mood, fake it until you are.”
