“I believe that a student learns better in a caring environment that is lively and fun.”
Pamela Hackeman loves to watch her students learn and grow. In the eleven years that she has been teaching at Make-Up Designory, she has helped countless students gain confidence in their new skills, and ultimately build successful careers. She currently teaches Beauty Make-Up 101, including fundamentals for print, film, stage and television, as well as Beauty 301, a portfolio class, at MUD’s Los Angeles campus.
Ms. Hackeman draws upon extensive experience in professional make-up and retail sales. She began her career working for major retail cosmetic brands like MAC, Chanel, La Prairie, Biotherm and Shiseido, and honed her skills in make-up instruction by conducting skin care seminars in South Africa and Thailand for Amway’s ARTISTRY Cosmetics brand. Her make-up credits include runway work in New York, San Francisco and Miami, as well as several commercials and films. Ms. Hackeman has worked with prominent actors and entertainment personalities that include Beau Bridges, Eric Roberts, Lawrence Taylor, Cynthia Watros, Robert LaSardo, David White, Shane Black, Ken Welsh, and Sally Kirkland. With each make-up assignment that she undertakes, she brings a positive, professional attitude, and strives to achieve a balanced, flattering look with attention to detail.
As a MUD instructor, Ms. Hackeman is passionate about helping her students succeed. She gains fulfillment by watching students develop confidence in their make-up techniques, and adds, “I believe that students learn better when they feel that their instructor cares about their success, as a mentor would.” She is also inspired by the creativity of the film, fashion and music industries, as well as the “orderly randomness of nature’s patterns and colors”, and loves all forms of art, including music, film, gardening, home decorating, food styling and fashion. Her advice to aspiring make-up artists: “Follow your passion, and explore your options. Life doesn’t happen in a straight line. Things may seem random at the time, but often times everything makes sense in the end.”

Hi Samantha,
We do have some placement information available in our NY catalog on pg. 37 - you can download it here: http://www.mud.edu/. Also, you may want to speak with Jennifer Heslop in Career Services for any additional questions and information. She can be reached at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or 212-925-9250.
Another great resource is our Facebook Schools page. You can get in touch with MUD grads, current students, as well as prospective students. It’s a great forum to ask questions.
We have a short video on our Career Services available on YouTube that you may want to check out if you haven’t already: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXiqlwZAY-M.

Hi Sharon,
We do offer individual / continuing education courses that are 6 weeks long. If this is something you are interested in, Beauty 101 would be a great place to start.
If you don’t have as much time in NY, we also do free workshops at MUD Shop. They are usually the first and third Saturdays of every month. Please visit our Facebook page for more info and to RSVP: http://www.facebook.com/makeupdesignory#/makeupdesignory?v=app_2344061033
Thanks for your interest and good luck!

My daughter would love to go to your school I was wondering if you had any scholarships for surviving children of soldiers who have passed away. The Army has a scholarship program but it is only for degreed programs. My daughter will graduate from cosmotology school in a week but wants to go to your school following her graduation.

Hi Susan,
We’re glad to hear that your daughter is interested in attending MUD soon. Unfortunately, we do not offer any scholarships. If you would like to search for other local scholarships in your area, you can try your public library, as well as scholarship info online. If she is awarded any outside scholarship(s) we will accept it towards the cost of the course or program.
You may also want to contact the Financial Aid department for specific questions about funding her education. For LA, you can contact Matt Berenty (.(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)) and for NY contact Maggie Smith (.(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)). Please let us know if we can assist you with anything else!

Samantha Rossi August 17, 2010 at 1:37 pm
Hi my name is Samantha Rossi and I am a makeup artist from Toronto, Canada I would like to go back to school to study makeup for film and theatre specializing in special effects and prosthetics. I was looking at several schools such as Vancouver Film School, Complections, Cinima Makeup School and MUD Makeup School. I would like to know in your opinion which school is most reputable in that fied as well as what is the percentage of graduates employed in the field (professionally) full time 6 months after graduation?
Do you carry profiles of past graduates? Where are most of the graduates working (in or out of their field)? What is the MEDIAN income of last year’s graduates?
Please let me know as soon as possible.
Thank you,
Samantha Rossi
