The International Make-up Artist Trade Show (IMATS) held in Pasadena this past weekend broke attendance records and was all around a big success! The show is the make-up world’s largest gathering – thousands of vendors, artists, professionals, and enthusiasts discuss and advertise the best the industry has to offer. This magnificent event offers a diverse mix of products, demonstration, and education from the industry’s top companies and artists.
This was the first year MUD was able to have both our booths (School and Cosmetics) directly across from one another. Character and special effects artists and MUD instructors KarrieAnne Sillay and Gil Romero showed off their skills with impressive and innovative prosthetic demos, while Sean Conklin and myself featured the newest additions to our product line in live beauty demonstrations.
The student competition awards held in the IMATS Exhibition Hall featured top graduates from make-up schools worldwide. These contestants competed for Best Fantasy Make-up Application inspired by Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, released earlier this year. Our very own MUD graduate, Chun Yen Lee flew in from Taiwan unsure whether or not she was going to be able to compete and found herself on stage winning 3rd place! Congrats, Chun!
All in all, this was one of the best industry shows I’ve attended. The talent, demonstrations, speakers, contests and featured products were all inspiring and impressive. It was a huge success and I can’t wait to see what next year brings!
