Last week, at our free monthly workshops in Los Angeles and New York, we showed our participants the basics of creating a Hot Smoky Bronzed Eye, perfect for Summer. Soft or bold, these techniques can be used for any occasion.
Products used:
4-Hole Eye Color Palette with Bone or Honeysuckle, Canyon, Spanish Gold and Bronzed Eye Colors
Rich Brown and Black Eye Pencils
Cream or Volumizing Mascara
Travel Brush Kit

For better placement, align a brush handle with the corner of the nose, the outer corner of the eye with the end of the eyebrow for a great guideline when applying eye color. If you apply color past that imaginary line, the outer corner of the eye will droop. The idea is to create an illusion of a lift towards the outer corner.
Soft Bronzed: For a soft matte highlight on the brow bone, use Bone Eye Color with the #330S Shadow Fluff Brush. For a beautiful shimmer with reflective pigments, use Honeysuckle Eye Color. If a subtle shimmer is what you desire, create a demi-matte by mixing the Bone and the Honeysuckle together.
With the #800S Crease Brush, apply Canyon Eye Color in the crease from the outer corner of the eye. Use a back-and-forth sweeping motion toward the bridge of the nose. Dust Spanish Gold Eye Color over the entire lid with the #800S Brush. Connect the outer corner with the Spanish Gold and follow the lower lash line with the #800S Brush.
Transfer the pigment from the Rich Brown Eye Pencil onto the #810 Smudger Brush to create a smoky effect. Start from the outer corner of the top lid and brush inward in small strokes. Make sure to create a soft gradient of color from the Rich Brown into the Spanish Gold. Transfer more of the Rich Brown on the #810 Brush and follow the lower lash line. Taper and sheer out the color as you move toward the inner corner of the lower lid. Blend back and forth until the desired depth and thickness is achieved. Finish the look with a coat of Cream or Volumizing Mascara.
Bold Bronzed: Begin with a highlight directly under the eyebrow with the Bone Eye Color, Honeysuckle Eye Color or a demi-matte mix of the two.
Smudge the Rich Brown Eye Pencil on the entire lid as a cream eye shadow. Stop at the crease. Deepen the intensity on the lash line and the outer corner: sharpen your pencil with MUD’s Pencil Sharpener, then connect the outer corner and follow the lower lash line. Taper the liner as you drag the Rich Brown toward the tear duct. Use the #810 Smudger Brush to evenly blend the streaks left from the pencil on the top lid. With the same brush, smudge the hard line in the crease in a windshield wiper motion and blend upward to create a soft gradient of color. Repeat on the lower lash line to create a smoky look.
To warm up and further soften the edge in the crease, use Canyon Eye Color with the #800S Crease Brush from the outer corner of the eye and follow the crease as you sweep inward. With the #330S Shadow Fluff Brush, stipple or pat Bronzed Eye Color on the entire lid. Line both top and lower water line with Black Eye Pencil. Top it off with a generous coat of Cream or Volumizing Mascara.
